Special Birth of a Baby Pendant

Recently, I was honoured to create a deeply meaningful piece for a soon-to-be mum. Commissioned by her loving husband—and their first little one—it was to celebrate their growing family and everything she means to them both.

The design begins – a silver concave dome takes shape in the workshop.

After sharing ideas and inspiration, we arrived at a very special design: a silver concave dome pendant with two tiny gold hearts nestled inside and a beaten 14ct gold rim encircling the outside. On the back, a beautiful Gaelic engraving: "A chuisle mó chroí" – meaning "beat of my heart."

The finished concept – symbolism in every curve and detail.

Each element of this pendant holds deep meaning:

The Dome – representing the mother’s womb: nurturing, protective, and life-giving.
Two Gold Hearts – symbolising their two beautiful children, past and present.
The 14ct Gold Rim – a family circle, unbreakable and strong in love.
The Engraving – a tender message from her husband: she is the heartbeat of their home.

Hand-forged with love – the pendant begins to take on life.

He was overjoyed when he saw it—and simply couldn’t wait until the birth to give it to her. I’m told there may have been a few happy tears shed when she received it!

Baby arrived safely not long after, and this beautiful message came through from the new mum:

"Morning Elena, just thought I’d send you a little message to thank you for my necklace to celebrate the birth of my little girl Aisling. It’s just perfect and beautiful. She likes to hold onto it when she’s feeding too."
