Beautiful Birthstones…and what they say about you!

August 16, 2017

A variety of Birthstones and what they mean, the ideal decorations for bespoke jewelry.

As you might have guessed, I have a certain “gra” for gemstones. As a jewellery designer, I suppose it doesn’t really come as a surprise! They have always intrigued me, and I love to use them in my work, particularly in my Children of Lir and Gossamer Collections, and most recently in my new gemstone stacking rings!

With a history spanning centuries, there’s so much to talk about when it comes to gemstones that I could write a whole series! For now, I’ll focus on Birthstones and what they say about you.

Garnet Birthstone

January: Garnet (Aquarius Zodiac Sign)

The garnet gemstone is known for its dark red color, though it can also come in shades of green, yellow, and orange. Known for providing protection and guidance, it is also a traditional second wedding anniversary gift! I may do another blog post on this, so if you're interested, let me know here or on Facebook!

Gemstones used in Elena Brennan Jewellery

February: Amethyst (Pisces Zodiac Sign)

The amethyst is a beautiful purple stone, with many different shades available. It brings peace and serenity to its wearer, helping to maintain a balanced mindset. It’s a colour I particularly love to use in my pieces!

Aquamarine Birthstone

March: Aquamarine (Aries Zodiac Sign)

Aquamarine, a relative of emerald, ranges in color from pale to deep blue. It is thought to promote good health, love, hope, and youthfulness. It also reminds me of the calmness of the sea!

Diamond Birthstone

April: Diamond (Taurus Zodiac Sign)

Diamonds are among the most well-known birthstones, with colors depending on the impurities in the stone. Known as a symbol of eternal love and courage, the word "diamond" comes from the Greek "adamas," meaning invincible!

Emerald Birthstone

May: Emerald (Gemini Zodiac Sign)

Emeralds are a rich green, making them the perfect gem for Ireland, often referred to as the "Emerald Isle." They are believed to bring good health and fortune to their wearer.

Gossamer Pearl Bracelet

June: Pearls, Alexandrite, and Moonstone (Cancer Zodiac Sign)

Pearls are beloved for their beauty and are associated with chastity and modesty. Alexandrite is rare and valuable, known for its ability to change color. Moonstones shimmer in different colors and are thought to shift with the phases of the moon, making them perfectly named!

Ruby Birthstone

July: Ruby (Leo Zodiac Sign)

The ruby is a stunning pink to red gemstone. It is believed to bring peace and harmony to its wearer, along with success in love and wealth.

Peridot Birthstone

August: Peridot (Virgo Zodiac Sign)

Peridot comes in shades of green and is believed to protect its wearer, offering calming and healing powers.

Sapphire birthstone

September: Sapphire (Libra Zodiac Sign)

Sapphire is derived from the Latin "opalus," meaning "precious jewel." It is believed that the brighter the stone, the stronger the positivity it radiates! It is also a symbol of purity and wisdom.

Opal Birthstone

October: Opal (Scorpio Zodiac Sign)

Opal stones bring hope to their wearer. They stimulate healing, and they are also believed to increase friendship and bring happiness.

Topaz Birthstone

November: Topaz (Sagittarius Zodiac Sign)

Topaz is thought to promote the life and strength of the body and mind. These stones are believed to help heal and preserve one’s sanity. It was once believed that the stone made the wearer invisible when danger was near!

Turquoise Birthstone

December: Turquoise (Capricorn Zodiac Sign)

Turquoise is known to bring happiness, good fortune, and luck to its wearer. Turquoise rings, in particular, are thought to protect their wearer!
