Gillian's Special Circles of Life Ring

A special ring for beautiful tiny fingers. Gillian loves her jewellery, but her fingers are tiny ( size i ) so I wanted to create a Circles of Life ring, that would be comfy to wear and that she would love to bits!!

I made silver versions first, to get the size right. It's always tricky to work out what size to make the individual rings to create the wearing size that I need.

I created 2 complete rings, one version in 2 mm silver wire and one in 1.5mm silver wire, as I reckoned on such tiny fingers, 2 mm would be too clunky, but I wanted her to have the choice, so I made both up.

For the 1.5 mm wire ring to fit as an I, I had to make each ring as a size M. When all three are together, there's lots of overlaps, which makes the fit size alot smaller.

For the 2 mm wire ring, I made each individual ring a size N .5, to allow for extra thickness of the wire eating up even more space. So 2 mm wire rings size N.5, entwined together, give a fit of an I.

You can appreciate why I have to make each new size in silver first!! It's guesswork, but in general, to get the desired finished size, I have to make each individual ring 3 sizes bigger. More in smaller sizes and less in bigger sizes.  Great fun!!

Gillian loved the silver rings, and decided that the 1.5 mm one was just perfect for her. I advised her that gold wire would hold its shape better in 1.5 mm wire, as lots of playing goes on with these rings, so at 1.5 mm, silver wire might bend, but 9ct gold 1.5 mm would be very strong.

So we went for 9ct white, yellow and rose gold rings, with a lightly beaten texture all over each ring. 

They turned out lovely and she is soo happy with them.
